Wednesday

I'm baaaaack!

... with a vengeance. I'm going to spare you cliched ramblings and stereotypical yet oh so... "profound" observations on life and just cut to the chase. I want to make blog posts, video tutorials and maybe even vlogs in a attempt to share my passion for creativity and making with the rest of the world. I'm not necessarily trying at this point in time to be original or innovative but I want to explore the things the inspire me and learn by doing and imitating those I admire. Lets get straight into it.

The source of my inspiration: Chris Bracey, also known as the Neon Man. Behold the majesty of his work...

I'll let the images speak for themselves.

Inspired by Bracey's striking reinvention of the marquee lights and neon signs typically associated with sleazy strip clubs and seedy bars, speaks for itself, I decided to make my own custom  "cool light thing". Taking cues from the trend setters over at Oh Happy Day I made this:

Okay so its not nearly as amazeballs as Mr.Bracey's creations but I was pretty chuffed with myself.

I made a video documenting and explaining the process. Since this is my first time trying this kind of thing I'd love any constructive criticism in regards to the clarity of the tutorial.

I also wrote up a how to on Cut Out + Keep which can be found here if you are interested.

I hope you enjoyed this post and if you have let me know below in the comments!

Tuesday

handmade books and melted crayon art

Some things I made today.

Monday

meet my resin space men

Meet an exclusive selection of my space man army. Aren't they marvelous?

I decided to place them around the house.

And in the garden.

My favourite photo would have to be this one. Such pretty colours.

The spaceman below has been rendered in oil paint. I quite like it.

I would like to give each little dude his own name. Any suggestions for the ones featured?
I have had a lot of people ask to buy them. I couldn't put a price on them so instead I'm planning to give some of them away as Christmas presents.

Today I brought home some of the craftier materials my art teacher would rather hide in an abyss never to be seen again. Tacky is what she calls it. I'm determined to make something awesome so stay tuned.
After my last exam tomorrow I have a seven day weekend. Yippee!

Saturday

the art show

I went to the most wonderful art show the other day and tried to snap some pretty pictures to share.

It was held at the local primary school and it was the brain child of the most amazing, loved and creative art teacher, Susie.

Considering their very limited budget I think they did a awesome job!

Above is some Klimt inspired work by the preppies.

The show was formatted similar to a haunted house you might experience at theme parks. First small groups were ushered onto a plane and taken on a flight.

We were provided with food and drink, and head sets for our TV screens also with luggage and other props.

Here is our pilot who wished us well on our decent into Egypt.

The next stop was Africa.

Then the Big Apple in the grand US of A.

Cool huh?

Next we pasted through Venice, Italy.

I thought the pizzas were particularly adorable.

Leonardo Da Vinci and the renditions of the Mona Lisa.

Naturally these photo don't do the show justice and its one of those things you need to experience for yourself to truly appreciate. In fact these photos reveal only a fraction of everything there was to see. However I am sure we can all agree that the effort and thought that has gone into this would surpass your usual expectations of a little art show.

Most importantly to me, this is something that money can't buy. Creativity, fun and passion can't be bought and sometimes I think a lack of money actually spawns amazingness because it forces you to think outside the box.

I have always had a huge amount of respect for Susie and her work something that has now been heightened. Thank you for such a mind blowing and also humbling experience!
